The June 2009 edition of <em>Nature Reviews Neuroscience<\/em> presents several articles summarizing the most recent research findings on this subject.<\/p>\n<p>One of these articles, by Amy F. T. Arnsten, shows how stress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_08\/i_08_cr\/i_08_cr_dep\/i_08_cr_dep.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">inhibits thinking, planning, and control activity in the prefrontal cortex<\/span><\/a>, while strengthening the activity of the rapid reflex pathways connected to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/d\/d_04\/d_04_cr\/d_04_cr_peu\/d_04_cr_peu.html#2\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">amygdala<\/span><\/a> and the subcortical structures associated with it.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In another article, Sonia J.
