That is understandable, given the all the extra work involved in writing the content for such a site. But a handful of writers have been energetic enough, or foolish enough, to attempt this approach, including yours truly, with <em>The Brain from Top to Bottom<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Because web sites like mine are so scarce, I would feel remiss if I did not let my readers know about another one that has been around for a few years now. It is called <em>Genes to Cognition Online<\/em> (first link below).<!--more--> The home page presents a concept map that serves as the primary interface to the rest of the site. It represents all of the topics discussed on the site as a dynamic, interrelated network, thus establishing the site\u2019s non-linear architecture. To explore the topics, you navigate through this network with your mouse. It feels something like travelling around inside a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/a\/a_05\/a_05_m\/a_05_m_her\/a_05_m_her.html#2\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">large protein molecule<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The organism\u2019s levels of organization are represented as a horizontal line running above the map for whichever concept you select. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/pop\/pop_n_org\/fs_pop_n_org.html\"><em>The Brain from Top to Bottom <\/em>uses five levels of organization<\/a>, <em>Genes to Cognition Online <\/em>uses six, dividing what we call the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_01\/i_01_m\/i_01_m_ana\/i_01_m_ana.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">molecular level<\/span><\/a> into two levels: Genes and Biochemicals. The other levels map very closely to ours: Cells (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_01\/i_01_cl\/i_01_cl_ana\/i_01_cl_ana.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Cellular<\/span><\/a>), Brain Anatomy (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_01\/i_01_cr\/i_01_cr_ana\/i_01_cr_ana.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Neurological<\/span><\/a>), Cognition (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_01\/i_01_p\/i_01_p_ana\/i_01_p_ana.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Psychological)<\/span><\/a>, and Environment (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/i\/i_01\/i_01_s\/i_01_s_ana\/i_01_s_ana.html\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Social<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In contrast to <em>The Brain from Top to Bottom<\/em>, which uses a colour code to identify the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/pop\/pop_n_exp\/fs_pop_n_exp.html\">level of complexity of the explanation<\/a>, <em>Genes to Cognition Online <\/em>uses its colour code to identify the levels of organization of the organism, so that readers exploring a given topic can quickly which tell which of these levels it is associated with. As regards the level of explanation, the introductory video clip (second link below) suggests that <em>Genes to Cognition Online <\/em>is intended for students rather than for professors or researchers.<\/p>\n<p><em>Genes to Cognition Online <\/em>also offers a wealth of multimedia content: in addition to text articles, it includes animations, and video interviews with researchers who work in the fields being discussed. In short, this site is well worth a visit, especially to see how it uses its own structure to communicate the complexity of the human organism, just as we try to do in <em>The Brain from Top to Bottom<\/em>, albeit it with a much smaller team (just compare our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrain.mcgill.ca\/flash\/pop\/pop_cred\/pop_cred_d.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Credits<\/span><\/a> page with theirs).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.g2conline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0pt;\" title=\"i_lien\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blog-thebrain.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/i_lien.gif\" alt=\"i_lien\" width=\"15\" height=\"15\" \/> Genes to Cognition Online <\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.g2conline.org\/html\/using_g2c_online.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0pt;\" title=\"i_lien\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blog-thebrain.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/i_lien.gif\" alt=\"i_lien\" width=\"15\" height=\"15\" \/> Using G2C Online <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are not too many web sites about the human brain that are structured according to the human organism\u2019s levels of organization, so that readers always keep this fundamental concept in mind.
